It Is Better To Give Than To Recive

“Go to bed right now!” my mother said firmly.”We will see you in the morning.” my dad said in a hushed voice. “OK, I love you”I said.Click out went the lights. The next morning I ran like a cheetah down the stairs to see if Santa had eaten the cookies, there wasn’t even a crumb left on the plate. I turned to see oodles of presents. Big presents, small presents, pink presents, blue presents. I ripped and tore through presents, but there was one little box on the fireplace that caught my attention. It said “open me” on the front. I carefully picked one piece of tape at a time and then took off the lid. Inside the box was a card. The card said “get your oven mitts ready because you are going to work in a soup kitchen!” “Oh boy oh boy I can’t wait to go this will be so much”, “wait what is a soup kitchen” i asked my mom with a puzzled look on my face? “A soup kitchen is a place where you can go to volunteer to help people who are less fortunate” she said.

On the way there we sang Christmas songs and I played with my barbie doll she had blue eyes, a red dress, and green slippers on her feet, I named her Bella. We turned the corner and on the side of the road there was a sign that said “homeless shelter this way.” when we got there I screamed with excitement “we are here!”

Inside there were decorations on the tables. We put on our aprons and sat at a table. My siblings and I peeled carrots and potatoes while my mom and dad cut them up and put them into bowls. After they were done i took the potatoes to be made into mashed potatoes and the carrots to be put with the ranch. We put forks, spoons, plates, napkins, and cups on the table. Everything was ready then a nice lady came up to me and asked me if I wanted a cookie for helping. I took the cookie and we drove home. It was the best Christmas of my life!
